Severe Weather Awareness Week (April)
The Severe Weather Awareness Week campaign helps teach Minnesotans about weather hazards and provides resources to minimize the risks associated with severe weather. Using this site as a guide, everyone is encouraged to make a plan, build an emergency kit and practice drills. The campaign and the scheduled statewide tornado drills are conducted in collaboration with the State of Wisconsin.

These times are designed to provide as many people as possible the opportunity to hear the sirens and practice plans for seeking shelter in the event of an actual storm. When seeking shelter in any building, always go to the lowest level, avoid windows and doors, and try to position yourselves in an inside room or under a staircase.
Please take this opportunity to make plans both at home and at work for reacting to warnings.
Typically, June is the leading month for tornadoes, but awareness of one of nature’s most terrifying phenomenon can aid in the safety of citizens during a potential threat any time of the year.
