Mayor John Galle established the Mayor’s Medal of Honor program in 1994. Since then, more than 150 citizens have been recognized for outstanding achievements in 10 categories. It’s the time of year to begin thinking about nominees for 2013. Although the deadline is December 2nd, it is not too early to pick up a form in the lobby of city hall and make a nomination (perhaps several).
Over the years, the titles of several of the awards have changed and the criteria have been expanded. The 10 categories are City Service, Community-Wide Service, Services By Senior Citizens, Human Services, Schools or Education, Good Neighbor, Business Owner or Employee, Mayor’s Choice, Volunteer of the Year and the Challenge Award. Details and descriptions of categories are included on the nomination forms.
TO ALLOW TIME FOR THE POOL OF POTENTIAL NOMINEES TO GROW, NOMINIATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN 2015. PLEASE CHECK BACK IN 2016 TO MAKE YOUR NOMINATION.
If you wish to nominate someone for a Mayor’s Medal of Honor award, please keep that person in mind for a future year’s award.
In the future when the Mayor resumes the Mayor’s Medal of Honor award program, notices will be printed in the Citizen and announcements made on KDOM radio.
